Mabel G. Shafer

Juniata resident Mabel G. Shafer, 97, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Haven home in Kenesaw, NE. Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2 pm at the Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale, NE with Rev. Tony Dawson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 12 noon to 8 pm, Monday, 9 am to 9 pm and Tuesday, 9 am to 12 noon at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the Rosedale Cemetery Association. Mabel was born May 1, 1915 on a farm north of Juniata, NE. Mabel was born to John H and Anna Smith (Shafer). She attended District 14 and 29 schools. She graduated from Hastings High School in May of 1932. She married Lloyd Cal Shafer on March 4, 1950, he passed away March 1977. She worked at PBX and receptionist at the Hastings Regional Center, was a clerk at the Hastings Post Office during WWII, she worked at Brock Thompson Department Store and she was a clerk in the admissions office at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She also worked at the Foote and Anderson Medical Office for Herb Anderson, Business Supply Company, Office of the Superintendent for Hastings Public Schools, the Little Blue NRD Hastings office. She had also worked in California from 1967 to 1968 at Craft Tile Co and DCAS office. She sold Avon and volunteered at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by cousins and friends. She was proceded in death by her parents, her husband Cal, and one brother Orville B. Shafer.
