Hastings resident Marcella Hansen, 93, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Mary Lanning Health Care in Hastings.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12th at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her memory to the Grace United Methodist Church in Holstein, NE or the charity of the donors choice.
Marcella was born June 6, 1920 in rural Adams County, the daughter of Den and Hilda (Crick) Kennedy. Marcella had three brothers. She graduated from Kenesaw High School and taught school in rural Adams County before her marriage to Kenneth Hansen on August 17, 1943. The couple was married for 67 years before Kenneths death.
Marcella was an active member of the Holstein Grace United Methodist Church. After their retirement the couple became members of the Hastings Grace United Methodist Church. Marcella was a homemaker. She loved to quilt and made her family many wonderful quilts and also enjoyed dancing.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda and husband Charles Shaw of Holstein; one son, Jerry Hansen of Porter Ranch, CA; three grandchildren, Colleen and husband Randy Kothe Hastings, Tim Shaw and Bradley Shaw of Holstein; three great grandchildren, Jenna and husband Brad Reiter of Formoso, KS, Eric and wife Andrea Kothe of Hastings and Nicholas Kothe of Holstein; three great-great grandsons, Colten and Hunter Kothe and Val Jean Reiter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; three brothers, Ronald, Virgil and Dennis Kennedy and her parents.
