Marcia Mignon Baxter

Marcia Mignon Baxter, 95, long-time Grand Island resident, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Karla Sheffy will be officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday, October 6, 2014 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Women's Club or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Marcia was born on May 28, 1919 in Grand Island to Harry and Leona (Moore) Dreher. She received her education at Grand Island Senior High, graduating in 1937. She was united in marriage to James "Jim" Baxter on September 15, 1940 in Grand Island.

Marcia was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed life, and was deeply loved. She enjoyed playing cards and being with people whether it was the Church Circle, Women's Club, Red Hats, Bridge Clubs, or family and friends at every opportunity. Her last home was the Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island where she formed additional friends. She was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with family this past May.

She is survived by her 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Falldorf of Gretna, Barbara and Jerry Brand of Grand Island, and Catherine and William Bigley of Omaha; sister, Francis Suddath of Madison, Mississippi; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Brandie (Sheffield) and Doug Griffin, Bret and Nicole Sheffield, Merrit (Falldorf) and Greg Kerr, Jason Falldorf, Bart and Heidi Sheffield, Bo Bigley, Breann (Bigley) and Brad Avery, Blayr (Bigley) and Dustin Mallory; 12 great-grandchildren; a special cousin and his wife, Bert and Marian Brown; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, James Baxter; son-in-law, Jerry Sheffield; and great-grandson, Caleb Sheffield.
