Mardy was born March 22, 1942, to Carl and Tillie (Lammers) Wuehler. Mardy was the youngest of 4 children. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1960.
She met and married her first love, Jerry Kapustka in Cozad. He passed in 1971, shortly after the birth of their first child. She later met and married the love of her life, Dave Schley, in 1982, which brought together their families.
They lived in Lexington, Shelton, Cairo, and most recently in Lincoln with Dave in a home they loved and cared for, surrounded by wonderful neighbors. She adored her grandchildren and the students she helped through her work at the Cozad and Grand Island Northwest High Schools. She was deservedly proud of her work ethic and kept postponing her retirement until age 72 simply because she loved working and helping the students that still, from all over the state, are grateful for the connection she made with them. Traveling to new places, visiting family and friends across the country, watching grandkids’ activities, and wintering in Arizona with Dave brought her much happiness, too. She also loved and cared for their dogs, most recently Khia, and enjoyed walks with Dave. Her joyful smile and laughter will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband: Dave, daughter: Kelli Kapustka (Chad) Smith; sons: Kory (Amy) Schley, Brandon (Tiffanie) Schley; step-children: Rodman (Gina) Schley, Heather (Eric) Wagers, Jube (Heather) Schley; beloved grandchildren: Karson Jane, Rowen Clare, and Harper Ann Smith, Madyson Schley, Willow Anne Schley, Rylie Kay Saathoff, Sophia and Cecilia Schley, Hailee, Ricky Ames, Etienne and Lucien Wagers, Kaydee Schley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; siblings: Lola (Ken) VerMaas, and Eddie (Karen) Wuehler.
She was predeceased by her husband: Jerry; parents; and brother: Verlin.
