Margaret Marie (Parmenter) Steiner (96) formerly of Holstein passed from this world into eternity on September 22, 2024 at Homestead Assisted Living in Hastings.
Services will be Saturday, September 28th at 1pm at St Paul Lutheran church in Holstein with Pastor Lon Landsman officiating. Interment to follow at Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is Friday evening at Apfel Funeral home in Hastings from 5-7 pm.
Margaret was born to George and Mary (Druse) Parmenter on June 25, 1928 in rural Kenesaw at the farmstead known to the locals as “Parmenter Hill”. Growing up as an only child, she was loved and doted on. A happy child, she loved to wander outside, enjoying the company of her many pets and farm animals.
She became a child of God through baptism on March 31, 1931 at the Methodist Church in Shelton, and then later confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Kenesaw. She attended a rural country school and graduated from Kenesaw Public School at age sixteen. Her education was a positive experience, as right out of high school she began teaching at Shiloh Country School and attended Kearney Teachers college during the summer months.
On December 29th, 1950 she was united in marriage with Harold Steiner of rural Holstein. To this union were born five children in six years: Kenny, Larry, Merna, Corinne, and Ron. Harold and Margaret were married almost 70 years, she, the always faithful farm wife. They were members of the Road Riders and life members of the Chapparral Motorcycle clubs and the Hastings Ham Radio Club.
Margaret was a fun-loving, joyful soul with a hearty laugh–always cracking jokes and making others laugh. She could often be seen on the edge of a crowd of family, chuckling at the antics and observing all the commotion. Always full of stories from her earliest memories to late adulthood, Margaret could tell you about the most obscure event from nearly any time in her history.
Left to treasure her memory are her children: Kenny (Twila) Steiner of Reseda, CA, Corinne (Gayle) Mankin of Hastings, Ron (Annette) Steiner of Hastings. Daughter-in-law, Lynette Steiner of Holstein, Son-in-law, Dick Urwin of Hastings; Grandchildren: Chad (Tami) Urwin, Andrea (Cody) Niemann, Nathan (Kylie) Steiner, Adam Mankin, Travis (Laura) Steiner, Mike (Sky) Mankin, Troy Steiner, Rachelle (Kevin) Goshorn, Daniel Johnson, and Step-Grandson Greg Gavin; and Eleven Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Merna Urwin; Son, Larry Steiner; Great-Granddaughter, Maizie Goshorn.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran church of Holstein or Start Over Rover in Hastings.
