Hastings resident, Marilyn R. Will, 77 passed away June 10, 2013 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, NE with her family by her side. Services are pending with the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Services will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, in Hastings, with the Rev Tony Dawson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, in Hastings with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery, in Hastings. Condolences may be sent to www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the family. Marilyn was born on August 30, 1935 in Hastings to Alvin and Clara (Kloke) Schuck of Harvard. Marilyn received her diploma from Harvard High School in 1953 and then attended Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1956. Marilyn was married to George Will on September 23, 1956. Afterwards becoming members of the First United Methodist Church. She worked as a nurse for Drs. Weber and Osborne prior to her rewarding career in the Mary Lanning Emergency Department. After over four decades of dedication to her patients, she retired to spend more time with her family. Marilyn was elected to serve the fourth ward of the Hastings City Council in 1990. She was elected to four terms, faithfully serving the citizens of Hastings for a total of 16 years. She was the Council Vice President from 1996-2000 and the Council President from 2000-2002. Marilyn was a member of the Mary Lanning School of Nursing alumni and served as the treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Eagles, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliaries and also was an Elks Doe. She was liaison on the Hastings Museum Board and the Hastings Housing Authority. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, George Will of Hastings; two sons, Gordon Will and Mike (Bonnie) Will, one daughter, Shelly Van Meter of Hastings; one sister, Glenda (Ken) Cook of Adams, NE; one granddaughter, Amber (Dennis) Rosno of Grand Island; and two grandsons, Shane (Stefanie) Will and Zachary Van Meter of Hastings, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Shotzie. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ivor (Billie) Schuck of Harvard; and one sister Donna (Don) Wernke of Grand Island.
