Hastings resident, Marion R. Whitney, 87, passed away, Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare.



Private family services. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. There will be no visitation. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements



Marion was born March 11, 1929 to William Vernon and Mary Ann (Christenson) Whitney in Red Oak, IA. He attended Red Oak School. He married Lois Gentert on June 24, 1951 in Holstein, NE. He served in the United States Army from February 14, 1951 to February 13, 1953. He worked at the Hastings Seed & Supply until retiring in 1981.



He is survived by his wife Lois, two sons, Jerry (Karren) Whitney and Lyle (Mary Lee) Whitney all of Hastings. 7 grandchildren, Renee Whitney of Hastings, Sherri (Cage) Urquhart of Missoula, MT, Kaye Whitney, Stockton, KS, Matthew (Jennifer) Whitney, of Hastings, Kelly Whitney, Oak, NE, Andrew Whitney of Hastings and Patrick Whitney of Hastings, 2 great grandchildren, Evan Urquhart and Rayleigh Whitney, and 2 step-grandchildren, Emma Klahn and Adian Schmailzl.



He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Myron and William Whitney, 1 sister Mae, and 1 infant twin sister Mary.
