Marjorie J. Lockwood

Marjorie J. Lockwood, 87, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the Rev. Mark Oberbeck officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. MST Thursday in the Benkelman Cemetery at Benkelman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lockwood was born June 1, 1926, in a sod house in Cheyenne County, Kan., to Guy and Myrtle (Farrens) Burkhalter.

Survivors of the immediate family include five daughters and two sons-in-law, Ginnee and John Mortensen of Grand Island, Diane and Marty McCune of McCook, Cheryl Causey of Charleston, W. Va., Linda Seybold and Tammy Tanner, both of Grand Island; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Overholt of Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepson, Bruce Lockwood of Shelton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She grew up in Kansas and received her education in Bird City, Kan. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Westrand in 1944 at Atwood, Kan. The couple made their home in Benkelman. She later married Douglas Lockwood in 1968, making their home in Kenesaw until his death in 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and two brothers, Arthur and Albert Burkhalter.
