Marlene M. Peters

Marlene M. Peters, 79, of Grand Island died Friday, September 22, 2017, at Tiffany Square, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Michael Reiners will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island.

Memorials are suggested to the Shalom Society at Peace Lutheran Church, or the Alzheimers Association.

Marlene was born on April 4, 1938 at the family farm, Route #3, Grand Island, NE, daughter of Frank and Paula (Trampe) Kunze. Marlene was raised on the family farm northeast of Grand Island. Marlene was baptized on April 24, 1938 and she was confirmed on March 18, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, NE.

Marlene attended District East 7 northeast of Grand Island for the grades 1-6. She than attended Trinity Lutheran School, Grand Island, NE for the grades 7 and 8. She then attended Grand Island Senior High School and graduated in 1955. Later she attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE.

Marlene was united in marriage to Marvin Peters on June 24, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE. Later that year she joined Marvin at Kindley AFB, Bermuda where the couple lived for 3 years. Later they lived at Nellis AFB, Nevada. They then returned to Grand Island.

After high school Marlene worked at the First National Bank. While they were in Bermuda she worked in the Civil Service in the accounting department. Upon returning to Grand Island she worked at the Overland National Bank and the Chamber of Commerce. When her family moved to Norfolk Marlene worked for the Delay 1st National Bank where she was promoted to Credit Review Manager. Also, she worked for a CPA firm.

In Norfolk, NE she was active in United Way, was a charter member of the Chamber of Commerce Womens Division and served as President. She was a charter member of the Northeast Nebraska Bank Women. Her family was members of Christ Lutheran Church.

When the family was transferred back to Grand Island they belonged to Peace Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Shalom Society of Peace Lutheran and served as President, Vice President and Secretary. She also served as the congregational secretary and was a member of the church choir.

Marlene enjoyed flowers, square dancing, dancing, camping, a good card game, traveling and antiquing. Also, she was involved in photography both in Bermuda and in the states.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Marvin of Grand Island, children Melissa (Richard) Howell of Omaha, Michelle Jacobsen of Fremont; her sister, Marilyn (Laurence) Otto of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Megan (Tyler) Neuharth, Thomas (Bailey) Howell, Joel (Ashley) Jacobsen and Neil Jacobsen; one great-grand son Archer Jacobsen and one great-grand daughter Mackenzie Howell, along with numerous extended family and friends.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and a niece Shelly Otto.
