Mary Lou “Loy” Snow, 80, of Ravenna died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ravenna. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Pastor J.H. Schroeder. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.
Loy was born on April 2, 1941 in Berwyn, NE to Charles (Fritz) and Opal (Roberts) Hawkins. She grew up around the North Loup and Arcadia area where she attended Arcadia High School.
She was united in marriage to Denzel D. Snow on September 14, 1958 on horseback at Fonner Park. After which the couple lived north of Brewster. They then moved to Broken Bow for a few years. Then moving to Ord and then to Loup City. She ran the H & R Block office in Loup City for many years. In 1990 they moved to the Snow family ranch north of Brewster. After they both retired in 2005, they moved to Ravenna to be closer to family.
Loy was a member of the Sherman County Fair Board and the Sandhills Public School Board. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, riding horses, painting, and helping with demolition derbies at the county fair.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Denzel Snow of Ravenna; son, Mitch (Jami) Snow of Malmo; daughter, Shannon (Tim) Kusek of Rockville; grandchildren, Lacy (Cody) Hull, Cody (Deane) Snow, and Brandon Kusek; and great grandchildren, Huxley, Kiercely and Rigsby Hull and Maylee and Cash Snow; sisters, Elajayne Amos, Charlotte Hawkins, Arlene Hughes. Brothers Mike (Karen) Sillivan and Elvin (Sharon) Sillivan and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law Ellwyn Amos and Gerald Hughes.
