Kenesaw resident, Mary Lou Whitesel, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Kenesaw Haven Home, Kenesaw. Graveside services will beSaturday, September 28, 2013 at 11 am in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw with Pastor Beth Fotinos officiating. Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2013 from 9 am to 8 pm with the family present from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home in Kenesaw, NE. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw, NE is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the family. Mary Lou was born October 1, 1929 to Burness Elmer and Vandora Rachel (Mead) Green in Story City, IA. She was baptized in Story City, IA. Coming to rural Juniata her senior year she graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1947. She married A. Kenneth Whitesel on August 27, 1947 in Lake Andes, SD, Kenneth passed away April 25, 1996. She had lived on the family farm until 2008 when she moved to the Kenesaw Haven Home. Mary Lou worked at the Hastings Regional Center, Hastings from 1950 to 1955 as a nurses aide. Mary Lou and her husband were championship Archers and avid hunters in the 1950s and 60s. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw, the Presbyterian Quilting Ladies and Ladies Aide, and was a member of the Kenesaw American Legion Auxiliary #268 and a life member of the Hastings VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by her children, Kendene Whitesel, of Omaha, NE and Kendall (Gail) Whitesel of Juniata, NE, two grandchildren, Laura Whitesel and Jennifer Whitesel both of Kenesaw, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, one grandson, Ethan and two brothers James Dale Green and George Albert Green.
