Former Hastings resident, Mary M. Patton, 95, died, Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege, NE. Service will be Monday, January 23, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, in Hastings, NE, with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, NE at 3:00 PM, Monday. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2006 from 12 noon to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from, www.brandwilson.com. Mrs. Patton was born March 16, 1910 on a farm near Crete, NE to Anton and Anna (Tisher) Kraus. Her parents moved to Crete, NE when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Crete High School and worked as a secretary at the Fairmont Creamery Company until her marriage to Edward Smetter. They lived in Lincoln, NE where her husband was a Coca Cola sales man. Mr. Smetter died in a car accident in 1948. On July 1, 1955 she married Hubert Patton. Mr. Patton died March 19, 1978. Mrs. Patton was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Hastings, NE, the United Methodist Women's Group, and life member of the Mary Lanning Hospital Auxiliary, past president of the BPO Does, the Pythian Sisters, the Eagles Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and the South Central Czech Society. She is survived by daughter, Janice (Smetter) Bantam of Oxford, NE. 1 Daughter In-Law, Beth Smetter, of Lincoln, NE, 1 Step-daughters Gail Stafford and husband Carl of Imperial, NE and 1 Step-son, Lynn Patton of McCook, NE, 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren, and 12 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is proceded in death by, her husbands, Edward Smetter and Hubert Patton, son, Glenn Smetter, 1 son-in-law Roger Bantam, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 great grandchild. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
