Hastings resident, Mary M. Salmen, 82, passed away, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10 am at St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Hastings. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with military rites by the Hastings Veterans Association. Visitation will be Friday, February 6, 2015, from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, then 6 pm to 7:30 with family present at the church. Rosary will be at 7:30 pm, Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Hastings. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial will be established in Marys name.
Mary was born January 16, 1933 the daughter of Toru and Minotu (Mori) Nagano in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from high school in Honolulu in 1951 then attended the University of Hawaii for two years. She served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1956. Airman 1st Class 8000132.
Mary married Dennis Salmen on October 18, 1955 and they lived in Trumbull till June 28, 2010, moving to Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Dennis passed away February 13, 2012. Mary worked as the Trumbull Village Clerk for 24 years and as a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Altar Society, Womens Veterans Organization and 4-C Womens Club.
She is survived by, four children, Denise Koch and husband Frank of Hastings, Terry Bjorkman and husband Dennis of Doniphan, Mark Salmen of Olathe, KS and Staci Abbott and husband Sterling of McCool Junction, seven grandchildren, Ross Koch and fianc Kirstie Hiatt of Kearney, Sara Hageman and husband Dave of Thornton, CO, Matthew Beckenhauer of Omaha, Amy Miller and husband Kevin of Grand Island, Laura Griess and husband Don of Hastings, Kaylin Salmen and Mason Salmen of Olathe, KS, seven great grandchildren, Lilly, Kenley and Kycen Miller of Grand Island, Lyvia Gundersen and Bentyn Griess of Hastings, Rohn and baby Hageman of Thornton, CO, brother, Henry Nagano and wife Chic of Los Angeles, CA, sister, Sue Ishikawa of Honolulu, Hawaii, sisters-in-laws, Lynda Nagnao of Honolulu, HI, Jean Opbroek and husband Henry of Hastings, Sharon Heyen and husband Jim of Hastings, brothers-in-law, Arlen Salmen of Fullerton, Robert Salmen of Niobara, Gary Schultz of Giltner, Arthur Salmen and wife Betty of Hastings and John Lytle of Papillion and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis, two brothers, Toshio and Ken Nagano, sister, Kay Sackwitz, sister-in laws, Sheila Salmen, Kathy Schultz and Carol Lytle.
