Mary was born in Grand Island on March 24, 1927 to Gustav M. Schweiger and Mathilda L. (Siercks).  She was educated in the Grand Island School System through the 12th grade and attended the Grand Island Business College.

On November 14, 1946, she married Delvin C. Obermiller at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Grand Island and were blessed with 4 sons:  Wayne, Randy, Stanley and Dan.

Mary was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant for 25 years, Ulry Talbert for 2 years, and Island Supply for 10 years before she retired in 1989.  After her formal retirement, she sold Avon for many years and worked part time at the City of Grand Island’s main office.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church having been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.  She was affiliated with the Platt Duetsche Ladies Society and a former member of the VFW Auxiliary, G. I. Saddle Club, Liederkranz and Eagles Club.

She will be remembered for her love of Cats and playing Bingo, even traveling to Oklahoma on the Bingo bus trips.  She loved playing Keno and was never satisfied with just playing one card at a time.  She loved her 3 cats and was heart broken when they had to be adopted out when she went to live at Tiffany Square Care Center in 2022.

Mary enjoyed polka music and of course the music of Elvis and was surprised by a visit from an Elvis Wanna Be on her trip with family to Las Vegas for her 90th birthday.  She will be missed by her family, neighbors, Johnson Lake friends and many acquaintances at their special life occasions as she always sent greeting cards and preferred them to be Hallmark cards, and probably checked the back of the cards when she received one in the mail for that famous logo.  Christmas at her house was amazing, as the gifts just kept showing up under the tree or from the bedroom, she so loved to give and her SOS Christmas cookies were amazing.  She loved her chocolate candy and it was known that she preferred it to be Godiva and Russell Stover.   Her love of her sons was so evident as their friends were always welcome at her house and she gained several “adopted” sons.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children:  Randy (Linda) Obermiller of Kansas City MO., and Stanley (Linda) of Grand Island.  Her grandchildren:  Ryan (Michael McKenzie) Obermiller of Washington DC, Michelle (Chris) Jackman of Kansas City MO, and Chad (Christina) Obermiller of Washington DC.  And her 2 great-grand children:  Annelise and Margot Obermiller of Washington DC.  She is also survived by Sister-in-laws:  Connie (Darrel) Anderson, Shirley Stutzman, Betty Lou Obermiller, Vangie Obermiller, Vickie Obermiller and Brother-in-law: Larry (Arlene) Obermiller and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delvin in 1993, an infant son, Wayne and son, Dan, her parents and brothers, Gus, Earle and Frederick.
