Maryanna M. Bessey, 87 of Grand Island died, Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.



Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 P.M. at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Donors choice. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.



Maryanna M. Bessey was born, June 15, 1929 in Holdrege, Nebraska the daughter of Wesley and Mildred (Dahlberg) Marshall. She grew up and received her education in Holdrege.



She was united in marriage to Harold Bessey on June 30, 1978 in Grand Island. The couple resided in Omaha and Grand Island. She spent 26 years of employment with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Omaha and Grand Island. She retired in 1983.



She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, Hospital Volunteers and the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed cross stitching, gardening and working in her yard.



Those left to cherish her memory include a step-daughter, Wanda and her husband, Mark Stelk of Grand Island; three grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Tracy Stelk of New York City, Kim and Robert Anderson of Grand Island, Jenny and Jeff Morrick of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Anderson, Makayla Anderson, Austin Anderson, Alex Anderson, David Stelk, Maley Anderson, Erin Anderson, Dana Stelk, Nathalie Brambilla (Honorary), Daniela Diehm (Honorary); sisters & brothers-in-law, Annabelle & Bruce Swanson of Greenville, Texas, Cynthia & Robert Heywood of Chicago, Illinois.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Bessey who passed away on November 23, 2005; sister and brother-in-law, Beth & Charles Shields; two step-brothers; and one step-sister.
