Maxine M. Church, 98 of Cairo died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society, Wood River. Private services will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cairo. There will be no visitation. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is caring for the family. Memorials are suggested to the family. Maxine M. Church was born August 27, 1914 at Cairo, Nebraska the daughter of Bert & Elise (Whitefoot) Bellamy. She grew up in Cairo and received her education from Cairo High School graduating with the class of 1933. She worked for the phone company in Cairo later moving to McCook. She was united in marriage to Dewey Church on November 13, 1943 at Charleston, South Carolina. The couple lived in numerous cities around the United States while Dewey served in the Army Air Corp. The couple returned to Cairo in 1960. Maxine was a homemaker and raised her family. She was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, playing the piano and cooking. Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter, Diana Church of Cairo, one granddaughter, Sara Church of Cairo, brother and sister in law, George & Irma Bellamy of Cairo.
