Maxine R. (Boysen) Fletcher

October 7, 1917 — May 26, 2013

Maxine Rosemary Boysen Fletcher, 95, of Grand Island died Wednesday May 26, 2013, at Tiffany Square Care Center. She is survived by her daughters, Patti Fletcher Yilk and Lisa Fletcher, her son-in-laws, Edwin Lindsay and James Yilk, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Maxine was born Oct., 1917, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She and her life-long best friend, Helen Tighe, shared an exuberance that school teachers often found challenging. The wooded hills of Council Bluffs were well suited for satisfying their need for adventure, fun times and roasting the most delicious potatoes. Her artistic abilities led to an art school scholarship in Chicago, which she declined in light of the lingering economic climate of the early 1930s. She fell in love with Mark Fletcher and the two were married in 1936. She approached life optimistically, intelligently, creatively and with an enviable sense of style and taste. Happiness was easily found, but especially when out hunting and fishing with Fletch, designing new dresses for her daughters school dances, at community cook-outs on the lakes and river, loving on and nurturing her grandchildren, and, later in life, adventures abroad. She was a deeply committed, loving wife and proud mother, delighting in her daughters accomplishments and championing challenging needs. Her family thanks her for the gifts she gave- love and fortitude. They thank her for her curiosity, the fun and the honesty she gave. They have so much love and respect for her.
