Maynard D. Desel, 91 of Wood River died Thursday, January 24, 2016 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River with Derek Apfel officiating. Inurnment will be at the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday evening at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to the Wood River American Legion. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Maynard was born on August 9, 1923 in Loup City, Nebraska, the son of Carl and Ina (Noyes) Desel. He grew up numerous states and communities, graduating from North Loup High School in 1941.
Maynard was united in marriage to Mary Fish on July 3, 1948 at Grand Island. They lived in North Loup where he worked for Foth Farms before moving to Wood River where he worked at Fairbanks Irrigation and Fairbanks International.
Maynard is survived by a daughter and son in law, Susan and David Guzinski, of Cairo, four sons, Gordon and Dee Desel of Wood River, Dean Desel of Wood River, Bradley and Sherry Desel of Wood River, and Darin and Julee Desel of Castle Rock, Colorado, nine grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister Lavonne Shipman of Doniphan.
Maynard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, sisters Verna McTavish and Donna Desel.
