Melvin G. Martin

Hastings resident, Melvin G. Martin, 92, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care, Hastings. Graveside service will be Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10 am at the Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, NE with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. There will be no visitation. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Hospice. Melvin was born January 23, 1921 to Melvin and Dora (Spears) Martin in Rulo, NE. Melvin and his lifelong partner of over 35 years, Agatha Maggie McCoy traveled most of their years to most of the United States. They enjoyed going to casinos and especially going to their secret asparagus garden. Mel had a very warm nature and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends until his hard of hearing years. Melvin is survived by one son, Marvin Uden , and one sister, Bonnie Pavelka, both of Hastings. Hes also survived by Peggy Nichols, Pat Adams, Judy Colburn, Connie Caldwell, Tim McCoy and Tom McCoy, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Ron Uden, one daughter, Carol Wallin, and his lifelong companion Maggie and special friend Betty Hoover, also three sisters, Hazel Ransom, Beulah Thaut and Virginia Fitch, and one brother Mike Martin.
