St. PaulMelvina (Melly) Annette Bishop, 89, of Grand Island died on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Brookefield Park Skilled Nursing facility.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 20 at the Gibbon Baptist Church with the Rev, Matt Wolf officiating. Visitation hours will be on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. A private family burial will be on Saturday morning in the Riverside Cemetery, Gibbon. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Melly was born on August 7, 1926 in Manhattan, Kansas to Guy L. and Grace (Norvell) Jolley.
On November 23, 1948, she married William E. Bishop in Clayton, New Mexico. They made their home in Gibbon for 50 years. Melly was a member of the Gibbon Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher. She was a devoted mother and scout leader. She loved to cook, sew, and do craft projects. She was an excellent card player. She and Bill also became Winter Texans spending six months of the year in McAllen, Texas.
Melly enjoyed spoiling her five grandsons and taught them many ways to enjoy spending quality time with family. She loved to take them camping, swimming, or card playing. Melly will be missed by many for her smile, hugs, love of music, and ability to be a good listener and friend.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Sandy and Dean Olson of Grand Island; her son and wife, Joe and Sandy Bishop of Worland, Wyoming; her five grandsons and spouses: Jeff and Sarah Bishop of Worland, Wyoming; Andy and Jenny Olson of Olathe, Kansas; Ben and Sara Bishop of North Bend, Nebraska; John and Theresa Olson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jake and Robbie Bishop of Riverton, Wyoming, nineteen great grandchildren, and her sister, Margaret Nelson of Manhattan, Kansas. She is also survived by 49 nieces and nephews and many friends.
Melly is preceded in death of her parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and her husband, Bill Bishop of Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Baptist Churchher church home for nearly seventy years.
