Merlin was born on October 9, 1932 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Clifton and Lillian (Robinson) Fuller. He received his education in Grand Island and graduated in 1950. He was united in marriage to LeAnn Ciemnoczolowski on March 27, 1951. They were married for 22 years, and six children were born to this union. He was united to Jean Larson on July 22, 1974.

Merlin worked for several places over the years, including Toledo Scales, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Nelson's Refrigeration Service in Omaha, and Hobart Sales and Service for over 32 years and was the owner of that franchise until he retired in 1991. He was a member of the Good Sam's RV/Camper Club, Jeepster Club, and even a card club.

He enjoyed camping and fishing and puttering with innovative projects.

Merlin was seemingly always tinkering and working on something. Some of his biggest projects were building a Winnebago-type camper from the frame up, adding solar power to his home, and restoring a 1948 Jeepster to its' former glory.
