Michael A. Tourney

Michael A. Tourney, 60, of Shelton died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home in Shelton. Services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Burial will be at the Shelton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family. Michael was born on April 22, 1953 at Artesia, California, the son of Wayne and Verna (Wilson) Tourney. He grew up and received his education at Bend, Oregon, graduating from High School there. He also started his career as a Sheet Metal Worker at Bend, Oregon. Michael was united in marriage to Susan Hughes on December 11, 1971 at Bend, Oregon. The couple moved to Gibbon in 1976 and Michael worked for several years at Anderson Brothers in Kearney. He went to work for his father at Watco Metal Works in Shelton in 1985, the same year the family moved to Shelton. He ended up taking over for his father and had passed the business off to his sons. He had worked there up until his health forced him to stop. Michael enjoyed fishing, camping and baseball. He also was a big fan of John Wayne. Survivors include his wife Susan Tourney of Shelton, two sons, Ivan and wife Rachel Tourney of Shelton and Mickey Tourney of Shelton, daughter Tana Tourney of Shelton, 4 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Steve and wife Cathy Tourney of Kearney and a sister Brenda and husband Mike Hughes of Alliance, NE.
