Michael Steven Merrill

Hastings resident, Michael Steven Merrill, 70, passed away April 10, 2012 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, NE. Services will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE with Pastor Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2012 from 12 noon to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the family. Michael was born September 19, 1941 to William and Emma (Burkett) Merrill in Nelson, NE. He grew up in the Hastings area and served in the United States Navy from January 27, 1959 to August 31, 1962. He married Phyllis Purcell on June 22, 1963 in Hastings, NE. He worked for the Hastings Utilities water department from 1963 retiring in 1999 as the water department superintendant, due to his health. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, of Hastings, NE, one daughter, Tami Lambert and husband Ken, three grandchildren, Keenan, Ryan and Rachel Lambert all of Miller, NE, one brother John Merrill of Filley, NE and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Denise, two sons, Randy and Craig, seven brothers, Chet, Harlan, Marvin, Jack, Dale, Dick and Jim, and three sisters, Naomi Zimmerman, Margaret Campbell and Virginia Gundersen.
