Mona L. Stark

Hastings resident Mona L. Stark, 97 passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings – Village.



Graveside service will be Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 3 pm with Rev. Tom Murray officiating at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in care of the family.



Memorials may be given to the family.



Mona was born November 19. 1920 to Henry and Emma (Knigge) Gestring in Rosemont, NE. She graduated from Cowles School in 1938. On October 24, 1938 she married John L. Stark. They moved to Hastings where they lived for more than 65 years. Together Mona and John owned several grocery and meat markets. John passed away on February 12, 1992.



Mona loved to sew and sewed many dance costumes while working at the Navy Ammunition Depot during the war. She also worked for J.C. Penny’s, J.M. McDonalds and Herbergers.



She was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and taught Sunday School. She belonged to many clubs.



Mona enjoyed fishing, making crafts and loved to read. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Texas every winter.



She is survived by one daughter, Karen Lacy, two grandchildren, Lorri Lacy and Rodney Lacy all of Hastings, six great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren, two brothers, Keith Gestring and Bob (Pat) Gestring.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, one grandson, John Lacy, one great grandson Tyler Schrock, and 8 brothers and sisters.
