Monico Cruz Andrade, Jr., 70, of Grand Island died January 25, 2021 at CHI Health St. Francis.
A private family service will be at Blessed Sacrament with Fr. Martin Egging officiating. A public visitation will be from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament concluding with a Rosary at 6 pm. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
He was born on May 3, 1950 in Kearney, NE to Monico G. Andrade and Tomasa S. Sanchez. He grew up in Shelton, NE and graduated from Shelton High School before going to Denver Automotive School. He entered the Army on February 10, 1970 serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on September 14, 1971.
He was united in marriage to Marcia Sue Watson on June 20, 1970 in Shelton, NE. After which the couple lived in Shelton where he was employed by Rainbow Bread. He also lived in Grand Island where he worked for New Holland.
He was a member of the VFW and Blessed Sacrament.
Monico enjoyed coaching baseball and softball. Spent many hours umpiring slow pitch softball. Growing up he loved participating in sports. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Monico was everyone’s friend and would help anyone, anyway he could.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Andrade; sons, Michael (Paula) Andrade, Chris (Jennifer) Andrade and Brian (Amanda) Andrade; daughters, Shelly (Roque) Andrade and Monica (Angel) Melgoza; 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sisters, Lupe Solano, Virginia Pedrosa, and Gloria Trejo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monico and Tomasa Andrade, brother, Rupert Andrade and sister, Rachel Vasquez.
