Myron Roland Berggren, 94, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. Services will be 2:00pm Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with visitation starting at 1:30pm. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to be sent to the family and will be used towards a Nebraska wildlife project. Myron Berggren was born June 8, 1918 in rural Hamilton County west of Marquette, Nebraska to Erik and Esther (Dahl) Berggren. He and his three brothers grew up working on the farm and followed threshing crews throughout Nebraska and the Dakotas. Myron received his education at District #47 Bluffs University. He joined the Air Force in February 1942 and served in Europe from 1942 1945. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945. When he returned home, he worked for his step dad, Carl Olson, learning the carpentry trade. Myron would later establish Berggren Brothers Home Builders in 1947 with his brother Oliver. He was married to Margaret Williams on May 18, 1947. Myron and Margaret had three children: Lynn, Ann, and Karen. Together they built a cabin at Johnson Lake in 1969, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Myron loved to hunt and fish with his dad, brother, son, and grandkids. He also enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. Myron retired in 1980 from building and managed several rental properties with his brother, Oliver. He was a longtime member of the Platt-Duetsche and Trinity United Methodist Church. Myron Roland Berggren was preceded in death by Margaret Berggren, his wife of 57 years, his father Erik Berggren, mother Esther (Dahl) Berggren, step-father Carl Olson, and brothers: Donald Berggren, Ted Berggren, and Oliver Berggren.
