Nedra Elaine (Ramsey) Blue, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Shelton, died Monday, July 4, 2016, in Grand Island from natural causes peacefully in her sleep.
Services will be at 1:30 pm Friday, July 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2294 X Rd, Lowell, NE 68876 with Reverend Paul Duffy officiating. Interment at the Kenesaw Cemetery with a reception following at the church. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Nedra was born June 23, 1927, in Heartwell as the first child to Virgil and Esther (Young) Ramsey and was raised on the farm with siblings Betty, Donnell, and Lila. Nedra graduated from Shelton High School and Kearney State Teachers College. She married Raymond Arthur Blue Dec. 5, 1948, in Kenesaw and they lived on a Shelton farm on the Platte River.
Nedra taught for most of her career in one-room rural schools, where she positively influenced hundreds of young lives. Nedra retired in 1991 from Kenesaw Public School as a second grade teacher, and loved visiting with former students. Nedra enjoyed traveling, dining and spending time with neighborhood friends, playing religious hymns on the piano and organ, and was a crossword expert. She and Raymond moved to Primrose Retirement Community in December 2008.
Survivors include: son Cary Blue and daughter-in-law Sharon (Smith) Blue of Shelton, daughter Marcene (Blue) Bauer and son-in-law John Bauer of Spalding. Additional survivors include four grandchildren: Liane (Bauer) Philmalee of Wood River, Matthew Gillham and Amber (Gillham) Melero of Austin, Texas, and Randy Bauer of Kearney; and five great-grandchildren: Abbie and Sara Philmalee, Isaac and Bennett Bauer, Elise Melero, one sister, Lila Colvin of Seattle, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Raymond in 2010, siblings, Betty & Donnell.
