Norbert M Forsman

Hastings resident, Norbert M. Forsman, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home.

Visitation will be Monday, January 12, 2015 from 4 pm to 6 pm with the rosary following at 6 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 10:30 am at the St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hastings. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. Norbert was born April 1, 1925 to Emil and Christine (Hammerschmidt) Forsman in McLaughlin, South Dakota and grew up on farms in South Dakota and Minnesota. He moved to Hastings in 1944, during World War II, to work at the ammunition plant. In 1952 he began working as a lineman for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company; he retired some 30 years later.

He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Hastings for more than 60 years. He was very knowledgeable about mechanical operations and engines and was well-known as the person who could fix any machine, ranging from toasters to transmissions.

He is survived by daughters, Carol (Ronny) Aden of Cortland, NE, Theresa Forsman and Brenda Kramer both of Lincoln, NE, and Rebecca (Tim) Janning of Port Ludlow, WA: stepdaughters, Sandra Williams of Grand Island, NE, and Patty (Melvin) Williams of Doniphan, NE, stepsons, Jerry (Patti) Borrell of Lincoln, NE and Stanley (Peggy) Borrell of Broomfield, CO, sister, Marge Wittwer of Papillion, brother, Bernard Forsman of Hydesville, CA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grethel; stepdaughter, Shirley Wilson, sister Lillian Welu and brothers, Leonard and Rodney Forsman.
