Hastings resident, Norma B. Exstrum, 95 passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village.
Services will be Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Rathod officiating. Visitation will be at 9:00 am up till service time in the chapel. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, NE.
Norma was born, February 26, 1919 to Cyril L. and Iva Opal (Parker) Johnson in Carson, Iowa. She attended school in Oakland, Iowa. She married Harvey Exstrum on June 14, 1946, Harvey passed away September 1, 1990.
She was a phone operator, worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot and retired from the Hastings Regional Center in 1984. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Blood Mobile and the election commission.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1945 and was an active member of DOES and the church circle. She also participated in the Foster Grandparent program.
Norma enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working in her yard and garden.
She is survived by three sons, Bruce (Barbara) Exstrum of Washington, DC, Kevan (Joy) of Hastings and Brian (Amy) of Grand Island and five grandchildren, Jeff and Adam Exstrum of Denver, CO, Matt Exstrum of Hastings, and Charlie and Olivia Exstrum of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, one brother, Kenneth Johnson and three sisters, Hazel Janky, Helen Dietrich and Maureen Nelson.
