Hastings resident, Opal Ann (Hoy) Thomas, 86, passed away, Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Riverside Lodge, Inc in Grand Island, NE.



Services will be Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10 am at the North Shore Assembly of God Church, Hastings, with Rev. Mel Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home is in care of the family. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com.

Opal was born June 6, 1932 to Hugh and Ruth I. (Hughes) Hoy in Herrick, South Dakota.

On March 29, 1952 she married Jack C. Thomas. They made their home in Hastings. In the early years Opal worked at the Carter Hotel as a waitress, she was a parking meter reader for the City of Hastings and later had an in-home daycare. Opal worked in the jewelry department at Walmart until 2013.



She was a member of the North Shore Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening bird watching and reading.



She is survived by three daughters, Opal Johnson, Linda Erickson and Peggy Sipes all of Hastings, one sister, Ruth Harmon of Ohio and one sister-in-law, Daisy Patterson of Hastings, 6 grandchildren, Tammi (Grant) Jacobsen, Sara (Eric) Weber, Jeremy (Nikki) Johnson, Jackie (Brian) Todd, John Erickson and Jamie (Jodi) Erickson, 14 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.



Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, two brothers and one sister.
