Paul C. Sommerfeld

Hastings resident, Paul C. Sommerfeld, 91, passed away, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11 AM at the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Burial preceding services will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 12 noon to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Paul was born September 26, 1917 to Charles D. and Ida E. (Buss) Sommerfeld near Blue Hill, NE. Paul served in the United States Army from September 17, 1942 to October 20, 1945. He married L. Leone Lewis on July 11, 1948 in Grand Island, NE. After operating Sommerfeld Electric Company, he became the City of Hastings Electrical Inspector for 20 years. He had lived in the Hastings area for 63 years. Paul was a member of the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE and was on the church council, taught Sunday school and was a Stephen Minister. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 60 years and served on the Hastings City Council. He is survived by his wife Leone of 61 years, 3 children, Joe Sommerfeld and wife Alicia of Grand Island, NE, Tom Sommerfeld of Gibbon, NE and Kay Sommerfeld of Hastings, NE, 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Sommerfeld, Katie Hoegren and Emil Sommerfeld and 3 nieces, Laurel, Lona and Barb. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant children, William Paul and Mary Sue and 1 sister Freida Bush. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE.
