Paul Vierk, 66, of Cairo died August 9, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center. Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Reverend Catherine Love will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cairo Historical Society, the Cairo EMT and Fire Department, or to the donor’s choice.
Paul was born Nov. 21, 1951, in Grand Island to Glen and Winifred (Donigan) Vierk. He grew up on a farm south of Cairo and graduated Centura High School in 1970.
He married Jana Young on July 14, 1973, in Rockville, NE. and lived in Cairo. He was a member of the Cairo Historical Society.
He enjoyed genealogy, history, collecting coins, eating Coney dogs, and speaking German (poorly). He loved spending time with his children, horses, dogs, and telling bad dad jokes. He also enjoyed spending his mornings with his coffee buddies solving the world's problems.
Survivors include his wife, Jana of Cairo; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly Vierk and Chris Hillier of Austin, TX; a son, Glen Vierk of Arlington, VA.; and a daughter, Ann Vierk of Lincoln, NE.; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Russ Bernt of Arlington, VA; and Janice Vierk and Ron Mimick of Omaha. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack.
