Paul H. Schleiger, 98 of North Platte, Nebraska formerly of Grand Island died Monday, October 05, 2015 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Paul Henry Schleiger was born October 29, 1916 in Portland, Oregon the son of Henry & Marie (Schwindt) Schleiger. At the age of four he moved with his parents to Nebraska, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1934.
He was united in marriage to Wilma L. Roth on February 1, 1942 in Ravenna, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Grand Island where he was a car inspector for Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years, retiring October 31, 1977.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, active in the church on various boards, and a past president of the Lutheran Laymens League. In 1990 he organized and served in the Grandparents Program at Trinity Lutheran Church School. He served on the Grand Generation Advisory Board, and was a member of the Union Pacific Oldtimers.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter & son-in-law, Kay & William Richardson of North Platte, Nebraska, son & daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Nancy Schleiger of South Jordan, Utah, five grandchildren, Adam Richardson, Erik Richardson of North Platte, NE, Lindsey Schleiger & husband Michael Plourde of Salt Lake city, Utah, Holly & Chris Kirby of Magna, Utah, Jeffrey Schleiger of South Jordan, Utah and two great grandchildren, Joey & Lily Richardson of North Platte, NE. sisters-in- law Marilyn Schleiger and Betty Ulrich. Brothers-in-law Arthur Vogt and Dewey(Benny) Roth, along with many nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma L. Schleiger, August 5, 2014, sister Pearl, brothers Raymond and Ralph. Sisters-in-law Birdean Vogt and Lillian Schleiger, brother-in-law Jack Ulrich.
