Pauline A. James

Pauline A. James, 95, of Papillion, formerly of Grand Island died Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home concluding with a 6 P.M. parish rosary. Memorials are suggested to St. Marys Cathedral of the familys choice.

Pauline Angela James was born October 28, 1919, at Spalding, Nebraska to Anthony and Frances (Ballweg) Braun. She attended District #47, Spalding Public School until her family moved to Grand Island in 1937. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1938. Pauline worked as a waitress and cashier for Schuffs Cafeteria following graduation.

She married Lewis James on September 30, 1940. Father Leo Keating conducted the ceremony at St. Marys Cathedral in Grand Island. Pauline was employed by Montgomery Wards for two years and Delicious Food (now McCain Foods) for three years. She then worked as a cook for the Grand Island Public School System from 1969 until her retirement in 1979.

Pauline was a member of St. Marys Cathedral, belonging to the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters, and served as Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister taking the sacraments to shut-ins. She also served as the funeral luncheon coordinator for St. Marys for ten years.

She and her husband were members of the Grand Island Earth Science Society, past members of the Audubon Society and Union Pacific Oldtimers. They enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling together which included more than 40 states, Canada and Mexico. They spent winters in Arizona during their latter years. Pauline loved bird watching, rock hunting and collecting as well as quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mary Ann James of Grand Island, and Jim and Caroline James of Jaumave Tamps, Mexico; two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Leonard Chohon of Columbus and Shirley Marge and Don Hawk of Omaha; foster-daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rick StephensTarulis of Naperville, IL; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 2007; her parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Jacky Braun; a foster sister, Catherine Oswald; five brothers-in-law and their spouses, Lawrence and Beth James, Ervin and Shirley James, Orlando Cap and Ruby James, Patrick and Alice James and Carl and Elizabeth James; four sisters-in-law and spouses, Nora and Wayne Billington, Irene and Robert Koch, Dorothy and Norman Christensen and Agnes and Joseph Lockhorn.
