Pauline R. McCleery, 98, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, NE. Cremation has taken place. Per Pauline’s wishes there will be no service. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Pauline was born in a log cabin in Randolph County Illinois on November 9, 1925, to Lee and Sophia (Schopfer) Beare. She graduated from Chester High School in IL, went on to graduate from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She worked as an RN for 31 years at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, member of NARFE, Liederkranz, Plattdeutsch, St. Francis Hospital Volunteer, Newcomers, Ladies Library in Kalamazoo, Red Cross, and attended 25 Elderhostals.
Her survivors include sons: Michael (Liz) McCleery of Cairo, NE, Thomas (Shellie Yax) McCleery of Grand Island, NE; daughter, Kathleen (Jim) Nielsen of Brookfield, MO.
Pauline was preceded in death by parents; husband, Charles; granddaughter, Tina; brother, Charles Beare; sister-in-law, Ruth Beare; brother-in-law, Don McCleery; and sister-in-law, Bonnie McCleery.
