Hastings resident, Randolph C. Kirkbride, 103, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Memorial services will be Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcus Mackay officiating. No visitation the body was cremated. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, NE at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Randolph was born March 3, 1907 to Herman S. and Florence (Clark) Kirkbride in Hildreth, NE. He attended the Hildreth schools graduating in 1925. He taught in rural schools prior to attending the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1932. He taught school in Hildreth, Pleasanton and Neligh. In 1937 he moved to Los Angeles, CA. He attended Pasadena Business College and was employed by the Texacos Pacific Coast Office. Randolph served in the United States Navy from May 8, 1942 to May 7, 1945, during WWII, serving 20 months with the U.S. Naval Operating Base, Auckland, New Zealand and then served aboard the U.S.S. Rawlins, joining the huge naval fleet in the battle of Okinawa. In 1971 he retired from Texaco moving back to Hastings, NE, in 1986 residing at Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Randolphs love of traveling took him too many places in the United States, Canada and Europe. He especially enjoyed traveling by train. He was a kind-hearted person who had a good word for everyone and enjoyed many friendships. His friends and his beloved cat, Ginger, will miss Randolph. He had been a member of the Peace Lutheran Church since 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be given to the Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE.
