Renee D. Peterson

Renee D. Peterson, 35 of Grand Island, earned her wings and went to her eternal home after a brave fight, on Monday, November 26, 2018, at her home.



Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Donald Baltazor officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family or Special Olympics. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Renee Danielle Peterson was born, February 7, 1983 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Walter & Maxine (Baltazor) Peterson. She was welcomed by brother, William and sister, Christina. She received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 2001. While in high school she enjoyed playing the violin in Grand Island Senior High Orchestra.



She was employed with Travel Lodge Motel, Mosaic and Nebraska Veterans Home as a med aide, until her retirement due to failing health. She missed working with the Veterans. She later became an independent contractor for Home Health Care.



Renee was involved with Special Olympics over the years where she competed in skating, swimming, track and field events, bocce ball, along with bowling. In 2010 she competed in Nationals in Lincoln, bringing home the Gold in singles & team bowling. She was outgoing, caring and always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Renee spent a lot of time with nephew, Michael of which she was an attentive “Aunt NeNe” along with her furry babies, Ambrosia and Rocky.



Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Maxine Peterson, brother, Bill Peterson, sister, Christine and nephew, Michael, all of Grand Island, Grandma “Gertie”, Gertrude West of Concordia, KS, Aunts and Uncles, Ken & Sady Baltazor of Taylor, NE, Donald & Debbie Baltazor, Philip & Rita Baltazor, Anna Baltazor, Rebecca Baltazor, Dennis Baltazor all of Salina, KS, Dale & Carol Baltazor of Waxahachie, Texas, Carl West Sr., of Topeka, KS, Albert & Julie West of Manhattan, KS, William West of Manhattan , KS, Bradley West & Ron Barry of Independence, MO, Lucinda Anderson & George Peterson and Pam Peterson all of Grand Island, Joan & Marc Lovendahl of Morganville, KS, Tammy & Bill Bottolofson of Grand Island, Kathy Wilson of Gothenburg, NE, honorary uncle, John Uribe of Grand Island, great uncle & aunt, Jim & Barb Peterson of Virginia Beach, numerous cousins.



She was preceded in death by her father, Walter, brother, Jon Michael, aunt Laura Peterson, uncle Dana Peterson, grandparents, William & Doris Peterson, grandfather, Donald Baltazor, step grandfather, Carl West.
