Rex V. Logan, 91 of Grand Island, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Health, Grand Island.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island with military rites by the United Veterans Honor Guard and United States Army Honor Team. Memorials are suggested to the United Congregational Church, Grand Island. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Mr. Logan was born March 8, 1924 in Bricelyn, Minnesota, the son of Clement and Grace (Hollenbeck) Logan. He grew up in southern Minnesota receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sioux Falls College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a Health Care Administration Degree in Iowa and his Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a United States Army Veterans, serving in World War II, 1-28-1943 until his honorable discharge 11-21- 1945.
He was united in marriage to Marion R. VanHovel, May 18, 1946 in Winnebago, Minnesota. The couple resided in South Dakota and Minnesota where he pursued a professional life in ministry for 25 years. The couple later relocated to Iowa where he served as a Nursing Home Administration for several years. He retired in 1990. Upon retirement, the couple made their home in Florida and later Grand Island.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, Grand Island.
Those left to cherish his memory include, three sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Peggy Logan of Los Banos, California, Lonnie & Cathy Logan of Grand Island, Lindsey & Kim Logan of Eatonton, Georgia, 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, November 27, 2013.
