Richard Otto Wood, 90, of Grand Island died February 26, 2019 at his home. Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 4, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island with Reverend Kelly Karges officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Chapman Cemetery in Chapman, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation or the Chapman Cemetery.
Richard was born on November 30, 1928 in Central City, NE, to Walter and Argyle (Schultz) Wood. He grew up in the Chapman and Central City area. Attending school in Central City.
Richard married Darletta (Davis) on September 16, 1951 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, NE. After which the couple lived in Grand Island where Richard worked as a production manager at the Grand Island Bottling Company. Later working part-time at TJ’s Car Care after retirement.
Richard entered the United States Army on September 4, 1952 and served during the Korean War. He was later honorably discharged on September 1, 1954.
Richard was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family especially his grandkids. Richard took great pride in his yard and his model tractor collection.
He is survived by his wife, Darletta; sons, Rick (Sharon) Wood, Randy (Lorri) Wood both of Grand Island, NE ; grandchildren, Chelsey (Patrick) Coghlan, Jerrod (Valerie) Wood, Landon (Shawna) Wood, Whitney (Hunter) Prince; six great grandchildren; brother, Gary (Julie) Wood of Polk, NE; sister, Carol Bushhousen of St. Paul, NE, Janet (Rick) Schneider of Tampa, FL; sisters-in-law, Elenor Wood of Grand Island, NE, Gert Wood of Central City, NE, Rena Wood of Whittier, CA; and special cousin, Ramona Spiegel of Albion, NE.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; brothers, Dale (Bev) Wood, Jim Wood, Dean Wood, Tom Wood; sister, Joan (Allard) Bushhousen; brothers-in-law, Terry Bushhousen, Eddy Gardner; sister-in-law, Faith Svitak and special cousin Charles Moore.
