Ricky August Peters, 62, of Wood River died April 6, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Private funeral services were held at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Mike Reiners officiating. His interment was at the Grand Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Apfel Funeral Home.
Ricky was born on September 13, 1958, at Grand Island, Nebraska to August and Elaine (Jares) Peters, Jr. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, both of Grand Island. He grew up on the family farm at Wood River and attended Trinity Lutheran in Grand Island. He was a loving son; brother to five; uncle to thirteen; and great-uncle to twelve and seven-eighths more. He enjoyed his church, basketball, music, dancing, tractors and TV shows.
Survivors include his parents and siblings Colleen (Peters) Voss, Bob and Jolene (Harders) Peters, Christie (Peters) and Brad Birtell, Steve and Lori (Niemoth) Peters, and Sherri Peters; Aunt Darlene (Jares) Rief, Uncle Donald and Aunt Elberta (Black) Jares, Aunt Shirley (Jares) Johnson, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents August and Bertha (Kroger) Peters, Sr., grandparents Charles and Georgia (Krepel) Jares. Uncle Leland and Aunt Betty (Peters) Bredthauer, Uncle Rodney Johnson, and Uncle Wally Rief.
