Robert G. Wenzl, 80, of Gold Canyon, AZ, formerly of Grand Island, passed away August 28, 2015 at Mission Palms Skilled Nursing Facility in Mesa, AZ.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member in Grand Island, with the Rev. Sheri B. Lodel officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran Church. The family request Nebraska Husker attire at the funeral. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Robert G. Wenzl was born September 28, 1934 in Bonner Springs, Kansas the son of Glenn & Leona (Beckman) Wenzl. His career in trucking began at the age of 17, driving a truck which later escalated to a thriving long haul trucking company, TFS. He continued his entrepreneurship in farming around Grand Island and land development in Gold Canyon, AZ. He was in partnership in Nebraska Peterbilt and owner of I-80 Trailer Sales.
He was united in marriage to Reburta R. Sattler, February 20, 1965. The couple made their home in Grand Island and Gold Canyon, AZ until his death.
He was an active member of Nebraska Motor Carriers and Beaver Motorcoach Club.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Reburta Wenzl, his children, Pam (Rick) Farber, Becky Weber, Sherry (Dan) Johnson, Kathy Wortman, Bill (Tara) Wenzl, Bob (Jan) Wenzl, Kathy Mitchell, Mark (Chris) Eilts, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother, Gail Wenzl and sister, Wanda (Dick) Smoldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonnie Bernard, Son-in-law, Kenneth Weber
