Robert Wilcox of Seward, formerly of Hastings Nebraska, died on Sunday January 25, 2015 in Seward Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Apfel Funeral Home at 10:30 a. m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, Pastor Cindy Kargas officiating. With military rites at the chapel service. Private family graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Ravenna Nebraska at the Highland Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the wounded Warrior Project or the Nebraska Stroke Foundation.
Robert was born in Sac City, Iowa to Fred and Sarah Wilcox on June 3, 1920. He graduated High School in Kearney Nebraska in 1937. Robert married Doris Wilcox on June 22, 1941 in Kearney Nebraska, a marriage that lasted over 67 years. Robert went into the United States Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Robert started his career in the shoe business in 1946 managing the shoe department at Brach Thompsons department store in Hastings. He then managed Wisemans Shoe store until retiring in 1986.
Robert and Doris loved just being together, they enjoyed weekend trips and both loved dancing. They both enjoyed their children and grandchildren and gatherings with their three sons families on special occasions.
Robert is survived by his sons and daughter in laws, Michael and Kathy Wilcox of Crete, Nebraska, David and Shirley Wilcox of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jon and Judy Wilcox of Seward, Nebraska, and sister- in- law Catherine Erazim of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Robert is survived by 9 grandchildren; Lisa Wilcox, Julie Skiles (Sean), Ryan Wilcox (Janee), Eric Wilcox (Corrin), Amy McCoy, Christen Wilcox (Anthony), Jill Wilcox (Jesse), Jon R. Wilcox and Cole Hayner. Robert had 19 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his parents, 5 sisters, Eileen, Hazel, Virginia, Betty, and Dorothy, daughter-in-law Sandy Wilcox, and 1 granddaughter, Becky Lerma.
