Ruby S. Marr

Hastings resident, Ruby S. Marr, 96, passed away October 16, 2013 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings. Services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 10 am at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Harvey and Pastor John Paul Marr officiating. Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE. Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2013 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings. Arrangements by the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Hastings or the Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Ruby was born June 10, 1917 to Frank G. and Louisa C. (Chase) McFarling Pearson in rural Edison. She attended grade school at District 105 and District 88 in Furnas County and graduated from Edison High School in 1935. She came to Hastings in January 1938 and worked in private homes. On June 29, 1940 she married Emmet E. Marr Jr. They lived in Hastings until moving to McCook in 1943. Her husband entered military service, Ruby and their 3 children moved to Edison. On June 1945 they joined her husband, Sgt. Marr at Fort Smith, Arkansas. After her husbands tour of duty, December 1945, they returned to McCook. In 1952, they returned to Hastings where they lived the remainder of their lives. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hastings where she has served as Sunday school and Bible School teacher, camp counselor, chairman of the Diaconate, chairman of the Prayer Chain, member of the ABWM, and the Lydia/Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the Adams County Historical Society and Genealogical Society, a Charter member of the Nebraska Genealogical Society, past member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary and the Nebraska National Guard Auxiliary. She did child care in her home and was active in Scouting and Cub Scouts. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Marji (Robert) Prettyman of Hastings, and Pattie Flury of Lincoln; three sons, David (Paula Gerlach) Marr of Wappingers Falls, NY, Daniel (Cheryll Reed) Marr of Hastings and Frank (Karen Bramer) Marr of Fort Worth, TX, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet, on March 12, 1997, her parents, one half-sister, three sisters, one brother, two grandchildren and one sister-in-law.
