Ruth Arlene Hastings

Hastings resident, Ruth Arlene Hastings, 85, passed away, Monday, April 22, 2019 at her home.



Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings with Rev. Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. Visitation will be Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home. Apfel Funeral Home is in Care of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family.



Ruth was born, July 24, 1933 to Charles Albert and Fern (Hines) Crandell in Superior, NE. She attended Hastings public schools. She married Richard Glenn Hastings on June 21, 1951 in Burl, KS, Richard passed away, January 13, 2007. Ruth was a nurses aide for over 60 years and was still a caregiver at age 85. She retired from Clearview Manor Rest Home in Tacoma, WA in 1994. She was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels for 18 years.



She enjoyed sewing making quilts with embroidery for all the babies in the family using her treadle machine. Ruth’s hobbies were bingo, bowling and softball. She was also a foster parent.



She is survived by her son, Terry (Wendy) Hastings of Enumclaw, WA, daughter in law, Dema Hastings of Bern, KS, three granddaughters, Andrea Landron of Puyallup, WA, Marcie Klatik of Lakewood, WA and Stephanie Hastings of Azle, TX, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, one brother, Ivan Crandell of Lincoln, NE. and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, three infant sons, and one adult son, Ronald Lee Hastings three sisters, Irene Matthews, Lillian Cates and Lois Crandell and two brothers, Clarence Crandell and Elmer Crandell.
