He attended School at Seedling Mile, Westridge Jr. High and Northwest High in Grand Island, Nebraska. Most of his free time was spent at his grandparents and aunt and uncle's farm in Wolbach, Nebraska. Where he "learned" to farm. When he wasn't "farming", he was busy with a paper route, playing little league baseball, wrestling, football, and track that he participated in through high school. Shane also spent numerous weekends camping and fishing with his family at Harlan County Reservoir and later at Sherman County Reservoir. Nebraska. He enjoyed entertaining his great aunts and uncles he had the coffee pot on and the cake and cookies on the table as his mother was still at school. Shane loved the tractors and equipment at his grandpa's farm. In school his favorites were Social Studies and the sciences. Music was always fun for him as he played the trombone in the high school band. Shane was very proud of the fact that he was a member of the Northwest High School 1981 State Football Championship Team. Shane was stricken with diabetes at age 16 but that didn't seem to slow him down much at first but as he got older it certainly took its toll on his body with transplants and amputations.

Shane was united in marriage to Teresa Marlatt on July 28, 1989. The couple later divorced.

After being injured at work he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where in 1995 he received

his BS in Animal Science.

He could usually be found cooking or grilling for a family gathering or and outing with the boys or old

friends.
