Sharyl Kimminau, 76, of Wood River died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. The family requests everyone wear bright colors. Pastor Brad Jepsen will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation gathering will be 5-7 PM on Wednesday at the Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to the Maltman Memorial Library or the Wood River Fire Dept.
Sharyl was born June 18, 1942, in Hastings, NE, to Harry and Fern (Utecht) Baker. She grew up in Hastings, and the family moved to Harvard when she started high school. She graduated from Harvard High in 1960.
On May 21, 1960, she was united in marriage to Bernard Kimminau at Harvard. The couple lived in Grand Island and Superior. They moved to Wood River in 1974. Sharyl worked for Hall County Head Start for 27 years.
Sharyl attended the Wood River Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Christian Women’s Group in Wood River and the Maltman Memorial Library Board. Sharyl had a passion for reading and always had a book with her. She enjoyed cross-stitching and made numerous baby quilts. Supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activites kept her busy; along with watching Nebraska football and volleyball. Sharyl also enjoyed being out in her yard and taking care of her garden and flowers.
Survivors include: Eva Heminger of Wood River, NE, Ann (Kevin) Krzycki of Sanger, TX, David Kimminau of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren: Nicholas and Adam Thompson, Jon Heminger, Lindsay Krzycki, Jordan Harders, Cydney Weiss, Kyla Kimminau; great grandchildren: Brodi and London Thompson, Sean, Danyka, and Jaxdyn Heminger, Quinn and Taylor Harders, Peyton and Brixten Krzycki; brother-in-law: Don Kimminau of Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Bernard in 2017; parents; step-father: George Rees; sister: Brenda (Jesse) Pittman; brother: Dale Baker; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Hoins, Lorna Kimminau; son-in-law: Bob Heminger.
