Hastings resident, Sheila M. OConnor Salmen, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the McAllen Heart Hospital, in McAllen, TX. Rosary will be Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 7 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, March 10, 2011, at 10:30 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hastings, NE with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 9 AM to 9 PM and Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 9 AM to 6 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.bradnwilson.com. Sheila was born December 23, 1940 in Burwell, NE to William and Francis OConnor. She attended Burwell High School and graduated in 1958. She graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island, NE and became a registered nurse in 1961. Sheila married Robert Salmen of Trumbell, NE on September 16, 1961 and she worked as a registered nurse for many years. She later graduated from Hastings College and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and became a Certified Public Accountant. She worked with her husband at the firm Salmens CPA until retiring in 2004. She is survived by her husband Robert, of Hastings, NE, daughters, Jacqueline Classen of Castle Rock, CO and Victoria Creigh of Omaha, NE, six grandchildren, Liz, Sam, and Maggie Classen of Castle Rock, CO, and Ally, Tommy and Jay Creigh of Omaha, NE, two sisters, Maureen Worden of LaCrosse, WI, and Marsha Taylor of Burwell, NE, and a brother, Kevin OConnor of Shepard, Montana, several brother and sisterinlaws, nephews, nieces and other relatives. A memorial will be established.
