Shirley Bottorf, 88, of Grand Island died May 26, 2017 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Apfel Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Shirley was born on February 22, 1929, in Grand Island to Thomas and Hattie (Maxon) Korn. She grew up in Grand Island.
On June 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Freeman Bottorf in Smith Center, KS. They farmed near Aurora, NE, until retirement, and then moved to Grand Island. Shirley and Freemans home was always a place for family and friends to gather. After retirement she worked at Howard School where she enjoyed serving lunches to the students. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed gardening. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley was a cancer survivor, and spent her last years with her family and beloved dog, Benji, who was by her side.
Shirley is survived by children: Sandra Erlenbusch of Grand Island, Ronnie (Pauline) Bottorf of Cypress, CA, Becky (Wes) Paulson of Grand Island, Tammie (Jason Arnett, fiance) Vanis; daughter-in-law: Judy Bottorf of Arvada, CO; 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; sisters: Donna Billington of Lincoln, NE, Colleen (George) Holder of Grand Island; daughter-in-law: Judy Bottorf of CO.
She was preceded in death by husband: Freeman Bottorf; sons: Lonnie Bottorf, David Bottorf, Wendall Bottorf; son-in-law: Don Vanis; grandsons: Ronnie Bottorf, Jason Erlenbusch; brothers: Thomas Korn, Lawrence Korn, and sister: Mary Lou Mudd.
