Shirley Wynne Schepers

February 27, 1922 — February 2, 2017

Shirley Wynne (McRoberts) Schepers, 94, formerly of Shelton, Nebraska, died February 2, 2017, in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was the youngest child of J.F. and Agnes (Savage) McRoberts, and was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, on February 27, 1922.

In 1935, she was baptized and confirmed in the Holdrege UMC, and remained a lifetime member of the Shelton United Methodist Church. She attended Holdrege Public Schools until moving to Shelton in 1937, where she graduated in 1939.

She married Ralph Schepers in 1940, and to this union three children were born: George, Edith and Diana. Ralph and Shirley owned and operated the Shelton Jack & Jill Store until their retirement.

Shirley was a past: Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Noble Grand of Rebekahs, President of the Shelton American Legion Auxiliary, Secretary of the UMC Womens Society, Volunteer at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital, and Vice-President of Faith Circle at the Shelton UMC.

She loved to dance, play cards, fish, read, and travel, but most of all she cherished her family and many friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, and her son George, 2 sisters: Lenora and Florence, and 5 brothers: Hal, P.D., John, Bill and Bert.

Her survivors include her daughters: Edith (Darwin) Wicht of Grand Island, NE, and Diana (Clyde) Frank of Lincoln, NE, seven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Her grandchildren are: Stacey (Chris) Preuss of Northville, MI; Greta (Bill) Pinkerton of Beatrice, NE; Jennifer (Dan) Cosaert of Emmet, NE; Dan (Lisa) Wicht of Grand Island, NE; Steve (Jill) Wicht of Plattsmouth, NE; Ryan (Shari) Frank of Lees Summit, MO; and, Alan (Andrea) Frank of Hastings, NE. The great-grandchildren include: Phillip and Sydney Preuss; Jessica (Mike) Matzen; Jace, Joseph, Maria, Veronica, Simon and Thomas Pinkerton; Kyle and Kaci Schmidt and Justin Cosaert; Dalton and Cooper Wicht; Danica, Mallory, Morgan and Macie Wicht; Hannah and Zach Frank; Keelin, Julia and Maggie Frank. The great-great grandchild is Dominic.

Visitation will be on February 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Shelton United Methodist Church. Services will follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. at the Shelton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jerry Schwartz officiating. Burial will be at the Shelton Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Shelton United Methodist Church or the Shelton Emergency Unit.
