Hastings resident, Stanley H. Haack, 83, passed away, Thursday, January 15, 2015 on his wifes birthday at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.
Services will be Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11 am at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dustin Bower officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 12 pm to 5 pm with family present from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Stanley was born April 13, 1931 to Herman Doc and Neva Alice (Stanley) Haack in Tecumseh, NE. He served in the United States Air Force from June 15, 1951 and was honorably discharged in December 19, 1953. He married Mary Ann Sohl on August 3, 1956 at the First Christian Church in Hastings, Mary passed away May 16, 1997.
Stanley worked as a truck driver for various trucking companies, Burlington Northern Freight, Wilson Certified Foods and Picks Pack Hauler. He was a race car driver and had a passion for racing cars for many many years. To this day if you gave him a race car, he wanted to race. He could even tell you how to set a car for any track.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hastings, a member of the VFW, DAV and the Eagles Club all in Hastings.
Stanley loved his 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren more than life. They are the ones that kept him going.
After the passing of his wife he took care of the squirrels and Mr. Thomas his dog. Mr. Thomas went everywhere Stanley did and would faithfully wait for him in the truck while Stanley had coffee with his friends at Burger King. The coffee guys would then go out and talk and pet him.
He is survived by one daughter, June (Robert) Wahl of Hastings, two sons, Stan Jr. (Vicki) Haack of Hastings, Todd (Stephanie) Haack, of Fairfield, close friend, Bonnie Slansky and his dog, Mr. Thomas, 20 grandchildren, Robert Wahl Jr and Rachel Ormsby, Travis Cantrell and Amy Warburton, Jason (Carmen) Wahl, Staci Haack and Andy Schoel, Justin (Danielle) Wahl, Nichole Haack and John Recker, Chris Haack and Sarah Hagemann, Jordan Haack and Alexia Andre, Bronsen Haack, Sarah Haack and Errich Holston and Ryan Haack, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 40 years, Mary Ann, step-father, Gerald Kurzenberger, one sister, June Arelene Haack and four brothers, Ronnie, David, Leonard and Jerry Haack.
